In 2003 ANKSTMUSIK records will be celebrating its fifteenth year of independence by forging ahead with a set of blistering new releases from a roster of talent from Wales that includes ZABRINSKI, WENDYKURK, M C MABON, ECTOGRAM and INFINITY CHIMPS.

But before any of these releases can appear the decision was taken to re-visit the early ANKST catalogue to produce some kind of definitive ANKST collection - RADIO CRYMI PLAYLIST - to commemorate 15 years of releasing the very best contemporary music from all manner of great groups from all over Wales .....

Volume one covers the first decade and is ready for release on a double CD in March through Shellshock Distribution.

Between 1988 and 1998 ANKST records produced eighty releases and the forty tracks collected represent a personal choice made by label head Emyr Glyn Williams of favourites from those very varied and eclectic releases.

During those first ten years the emphasis on releasing Welsh language songs was paramount and this is fully reflected in this collection.

RADIO CRYMI PLAYLIST embodies a desire to re-present these bands and these recordings to a new generation of record buyers inside and outside Wales and is an ideal primer for anyone interested in the roots of 'Cool Cymru', or the social history of Wales as seen through the eyes and ears of pop musicians, or what happens on the fringes of the uk independent music scene in general.

This collection is in fact is ideal for anyone who loves great music by great groups wherever they come from and whatever language they choose to express themselves in.

Most of these recordings have been deleted or unavailable for various complicated reasons and the opportunity to release them on this compilation once again is very welcome news indeed.

The collection is equally split between single releases and chosen album tracks

Included are contributions from GORKY'S ZYGOTIC MYNCI (who released three albums and six e.p.s on ANKST before signing to Mercury Records), tracks from early SUPER FURRY ANIMALS E.P.s and tracks from the three albums released on ANKST by FFA COFFI PAWB( 'Fuck off everybody' - the much loved proto-Super Furries band led by Gruff Rhys and Dafydd Ieuan). Also included are tracks by Y CYRFF ('The Bodies') who became CATATONIA (as well as the first official Catatonia recording - 'Gyda Gwen' - which ANKST released in 1993.) Also included are a whole host of magically young welsh pop talent including TOPPER, BEGANIFS and WWZZ. (who all found their way into much bigger bands). The female fronted MELYS and ECTOGRAM who dragged Welsh pop music into various new and exotic shapes while completely original one-offs like RHEINALLT H. ROWLANDS and DATBLYGU baffled and delighted in equal measure. While the pioneers also found a home at our label among them LLWYBR LLAETHOG, GERAINT JARMAN and TRADDODIAD OFNUS / TY GWYDR.

Ond cyn i'r synnau newydd ymddangos ma'r penderfynaid wedi cael eu gymeryd i gasglu at ei gilydd rhai o glasuron y label o'r dyddie cynnar a'i cynnig ar werth yn y casgliad RADIO CRYMI PLAYLIST. Ma'r casgliad yn eitha definitive ac yn ymddangos i gyd fynd a'r dathlu pymtheg mlynedd o rhyddhau cynnyrch roc o Gymru.
