MC MABON

M C MABON is essentially a one man band fronted by the hyper talented GRUFF MEREDITH. A one time member of politico-hip-hop rappers TYSTION this project is quite a different call to arms.

Debut Album MR BLAIDD, released in early 2000 charted several musical landscapes from punk, rock, rap and hip hop to instrumental, pastoral and electro funk - all emanating from Gruff Meredith's feverish imagination.

Lyrically the debut album had everything from apocalyptic dystopian scenarios ('Waterwars') to teen mag romance ('Log cabin') from humourous observation ('Aros am bysus a trenau' - waiting for trains and buses) to betrayed youth (' XR3i' ), eco warnings ('neith y byd ddim para am byth' - the world won't last forever) to flat out rock fantasy ('Anifal gwyllt' - wild animal).

Radio 1 appearances for John Peel and The Session in Wales preceded the release of second album THE HUNT FOR MEANING which appeared in Summer 2001 - this release took M C MABON onto another level entirely .

'SAY TALLY-HO! TO THE WORLD THAT YOU KNOW'

THE HUNT FOR MEANING was conceived, composed, realised and brought to life by M C MABON main man GRUFF MEREDITH . Invited guests include Cardiff band ROCKET GOLD STAR and the U K CHINESE FESTIVAL ENSEMBLE as well as a host of guest rappers and singers who provide the many different voices that accompany Gruff on his journey through the album.

Already the NME has paved the way for the album's appearance by declaring that the band are 'going out of their heads' and that their style is 'completely mental' .The album is genuinely eclectic and innovative in style and structure. Lyrically M C MABON uses the English language skillfully with humour and intelligence . The album easily accommodates pop appeal with highly ambitious song concepts and genuine lyrical depth.

In simple terms the album follows Iago Prydderch as he rejects irony and western metaphysics as he goes on the hunt for life's meaning. Along the way he encounters aliens, disco divas, the Devil, a rap relay team, the aristocracy, Chinese folk musicians and even singing pigs before discovering the mysterious 'Fire Within'.

The WESTERN MAIL said that M C MABON had created 'an album of indefinable and fearless proportions'. The Independent called it 'witty and hedonistic, an engrossing trip through lots of different musical styles ' whilst THE EVENING STANDARD made it their album of the week.

The reviews for the album were phenomenal.

'the sheer ridiculousness of this record cannot be underestimated. When it comes to gabba-ragga-punk-disco-flute-hop with barking dogs on , it looks like M C Mabon just wrote the rulebook - NME

' the hunt for meaning is a witty and hedonistic concept album . the result is an engrossing trip through lots of different musical styles , underinned by raw hip hop and punky guitars - THE INDEPENDENT

' Wacky Welsh odyssey. The Hunt for Meaning is a real gem. Ankstmusik may well have discovered its next superstar. There's gunfire, rap, spoken word, gritty garage band, rock and roll, scratching, beautiful vocals and ballads. This is no novelty record .Go out and buy - THE EVENING STANDARD (ALBUM OF THE WEEK )

'irresistible, bonkers, brilliant' - RADIO1

'gwych ydi'r unig air i'w ddisgrifi . A dweud y gwir ma'r holl record yn walltgof, heb son am fod yn glyfar dros ben' - BBC CYMRU'R BYD / RADIO CYMRU

' M C Mabon has created an album of indefinable and fearless proportions exploring all areas of blues, rock, hip-hop, electronic, punk, folk, ambient and even Chinese ensemble music' - THE WESTERN MAIL

' This riotous musical odyssey represents the triumph of chutzpah over budgetary limitation. M C Mabon mastermind Gruff Meredith has fashioned an underground half-brother to Super Furry Animals's Rings around the World' - MOJO

'The Hunt For Meaning could well become Three Feet High and Rising's mushroommunching Welsh cousin' - THE DAILY POST

ankstmusik are proud to announce the arrival of the new MC MABON album - NIA NON. Following on from the hugely acclaimed HUNT FOR MEANING, once more GRUFF MEREDITH sidesteps us all with a sixteen track 32 minute Welsh language collection of songs. The tracks were simply recorded with minimal rhythms, acoustic instruments, an out of tune piano and colourful contributions from all and sundry.

This is what MC MABON had to say about it recently:

"this is a new M C ffycin Mabon album. Recorded in 2002 for 24 pence it is absolutely marvelous and should be avoided at all costs. Try to go out with the sole intention of getting a copy then get digressed and go to Boots and buy some sustained release vitamin C and optimistic sun tan lotion instead"
