"New Deal, New Dead" is a diatribe against government sanctioned music. The New Deal for musicians is a scheme I am a victim of. The state wants you to go to "Rock Skool" and it is exclusively for 18 to 24 year olds . Do they expect musicians once past 24 to go away quietly and die ? Have they nothing valid to offer?
Y Byd Hip Hop Versus Y Byd Cymraeg" (The Welsh world versus the hip hop world) is a rant against the power of the media , especially TV and states that the Welsh language must adapt to survive . "Byw Ar Y Briwsion" (Living on Crumbs) deals with many topics that piss me off . On one level ; the weakness and lack of direction of the Welsh Assembly and on the other refusing to being ruled by so called Socialists, who are no more than Red Thatcherites. On the other level we call for the end of Third World debt.

"Stop & Search" is a big Fuck off to the new anti-terrorism bill that
Westminster is trying to introduce. This bill, with clauses borrowed from the CIA, makes the Criminal Justice Act look good. Once the bill is passed, anyone who opposess Government policy is labelled as a terrorist, and can be stopped, searched and detained for any length of time. Members of non violent direct action pressure groups such as Cymdeithas Yr Iaith Gymraeg (The Welsh language Society) and Greenpeace, under this new bill, will be considered the same as members of the IRA, UVF, PLO etc. George Orwell must have been twenty years out when he wrote 1984..... Hot on the heels of their recent re-discovery by the NME comes the release of a very special best of compilation from Welsh hip hop + dub + techno pioneers John Griffiths and Kevs Ford � better known as LLWYBR LLAETHOG .Ankstmusik records are proud to announce the imminent release of HIP DUB REGGAE HOP which features tracks from early underground vinyl releases on Anhrefn Records in the mid eighties through albums released by Side Effects , Concerete , ROIR and Ankst.

The cd booklet contains extensive sleeve notes and archive photos. As well as providing a band history it also provides insights into the workings of the underground scene in Wales which has , over the years proved so influential . The cd collection introduces the bulk of the band�s previously unavailable music from the eighties with selected collaborations from the nineties and contains some of the finest most imaginative tracks to appear from the welsh scene . Some of the tracks are specifically rooted in the past and act as historical witnesses to the way things were whilst other tracks are truly timeless .Undeniably influential LLWYBR LLAETHOG inspired others to think for themselves and create their own music and the promise of new material in the year 2000 from John Griffiths and Kevs Ford is very welcome news indeed ( an album of new material called STWFF is due to appear before the end of the year .)

The band will be playing as part of the album launch celebrations for label mates TYSTION at The Toucan Club , Womanby Street Cardiff on the 3^rd of August .

UNFORTUNATELY NOBODY HAS TOLD THEM THAT WELSH PEOPLE ARE IN FACT INTELLIGENT,MODERN AND ALIVE . THEY SEEMED TO BE UNDER A MISAPPREHENSION THAT WELSH PEOPLE ARE INCREDIBLY STUPID , STOPPED LISTENING TO NEW MUSIC SOMETIME AROUND 1973 AND HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO THAN LAP UP THE INFANTILE BANTER OF 95% OF THE SO CALLED DJ�S .

NEW MUSIC WHEN PLAYED AT ALL IS FORCED ONTO LATE NIGHT PROGRAMMES WHILST NINETY PERCENT OF THE STATION�S OUTPUT IGNORES THE LAST TWENTY YEARS OF CONTEMPORARY WELSH MUSIC .

M C MABON is GRUFF MEREDITH formerly of hip-hop rappers TYSTION .

MR BLAIDD is his debut solo album release for ankstmusik records .All fifteen tracks are

released here for the first time .Mr Blaidd is the work of a true pop artist , all styles are

included � punk , rock , rap, hip hop, folk, blues and ambient . Subjects covered range from

the apocalyptic to the everyday , fantasy and reality sit side by side on top of a succession of

super catchy pop melodies . All the tracks are from different worlds but weave together to

make a coherent whole , guests pop in and out helping to make the album a tasty bi-lingual

record with a stunning suite of English language songs sandwitched between two slabs of

The TYSTION have been very busy finishing the recording of their third l.p. � NEW DEAL ,

NEW DEAD .This promises to be one of the albums of the year , absolutely no doubt it .

The new TYSTION sound is fierce , uncompromising , tight and totally in yer face . Appearing

on the album alongside the core band members have been Little Miss from Cardiff and Recall

from Carmarthen as well as the mysterious Y Kontia and members of Rocket Gold Star and

various other mystery contributors . The album is expected in July . At the moment the band

are deciding on what mixes will appear on the album and artwork and stuff . One of the album

tracks was previewed to great acclaim last week on the BBC Radio 1 Evening Session where Steve Lamacq said they were �very good and one of the most exciting and respected bands in Wales � too right . Hope you like the pictures of Steffan and Phil picking up their award for Welsh album of the the year for their previous effort SHRUG OFF YA COMPLEX earlier this year in a gala awards ceremony held in Caernarfon organised by Radio Cymru .

The VIKING album by INFINTY CHIMPS has been put back to the autumn because main

member John Lawrence is about to travel to the other side of the world for a few months .

The ECTOGRAM album ALL BEHIND THE WICHTOWER is selling well and getting a lot of positive reviews . Select called it �a haunting blend of unhinged pastoral moods and leftfield music � like The Wicker Man re made by Sonic Youth� while MOJO thought the album was �deliciously lop sided , psych hippy art-rock � while THE WIRE thought the album � captures the genuine essence of psychedelia without getting mired in its surface trappings . If you haven�t heard the album you really should try and get a copy - it is one of those unique sounding records that couldn�t possibly have been made by anyone else .

The huge success of the SUPER FURRY ANIMALS album MWNG has led to a big resurgence of interest in the career of DATBLYGU (whose track Y TEIMLAD is covered by the SFA on their top twenty Welsh album ) . The collection DATBLYGU 1985-95(ankstmusik cd086) which features the original Y TEIMLAD will be re -released though Cargo Records Distribution in four weeks time . Again try and track it down � it�s a piece of history .

Welsh hip hop pioneers TYSTION as usual have been a blur of activity . As soon as they released their TOYS E.P. in November , founder member GRUFF MEREDITH split the band to concentrate on a solo career ( see below) . MC SLEIFAR took charge of the TYSTION and returned in JANUARY with a new promotions company TYSTIOLAETH - [email protected] in order to promote gigs, tours and events and set about travelling down to London to record their first JOHN PEEL SESSION . The incendiary session transmitted on the 10^th of Feb saw the band attacking the lameness of Welsh culture(COOL CYMRU SUCKS) , taking over the airwaves for a special Peel track and slowing down for a barnyard version of classic debut single Gwyddbwyll .
